Since Journey to the Quest started to gain popularity, we have been getting questions about creating alternate language versions of it. We at Theatre of the Unaligned love that you enjoy our content enough to want to translate it and share it in other languages! Since this inquiry is becoming more and more common we wanted to lay out some rules for those interested in undertaking the endeavor:

• No commercial use or monetary gain 

  1. Any type of fandub of Journey to the Quest (JttQ) must be free for the public to watch. That is, without ads, paywalls or other similar restrictions.

  2. Translators and Dubbing teams are not to directly profit monetarily from any dubbed JttQ episode via ad revenue, sponsorships or any other direct forms of monetization. This does not extend to a channel’s Ko-fi, Patreon or similar donation platform so long as the episode in question is not restricted to those platforms and are in accordance with clause 1a.

• Journey to the Quest and its characters are the intellectual property (IP) of Theatre of the Unaligned 

  1. Any fandubs or translations will credit Theatre of the Unaligned as the original creators of the content, and will not claim credit to the IP of Journey to the Quest or its characters. 

• Make it clear it is fan content 

  1. No dub of Journey to the Quest will be considered official, unless released by or officially cosigned/commissioned by Theatre of the Unaligned themselves. Content must clearly underline that it is fan made and not specifically endorsed by Theatre of the Unaligned. Theatre of the Unaligned reserves the right to pursue creation of an official dub of Journey to the Quest regardless of fandubs that exist. If an official dub of JttQ exists in a specific language, we still encourage interested parties to create their own fan dub anyway!

• No AI

  1. Theatre of the Unaligned is a company for artists, by artists. We love that you want to make Journey to the Quest more accessible, but we do not condone the use of AI or machine translation to do so. Using generative AI and LLMs to translate and/or dub Journey to the Quest is strictly prohibited. 

• Stay true to the spirit of the show

  1. We appreciate that direct translations, especially when translating comedy, is a complicated, nuanced process. We invite you to alter jokes and speech patterns to better suit the wordplay and structure of the translated language! Of course, we strongly advise you to maintain the spirit of the original work in doing so. Changing aspects of the story to suit a political agenda or personal preference is strictly prohibited (ie. changing a character’s gender to remove LGBTQ representation, altering/misrepresenting a character’s personality, etc.). We trust you to embody the show’s heart as faithfully as possible while having fun with adapting it to your language.

• Theatre of the Unaligned reserves to right to take down or restrict content at any time

  1. These guidelines are in place to protect ourselves and the community we make this content for. If we feel that a fan dub project goes against the aforementioned guidelines and/or misrepresents the original content in a way that is detrimental to the series, we may take action. We aren’t going to run to sick lawyers on you, but we may kindly ask you to take something down or make amendments if we feel it is not in the spirit of what we do. We respect and appreciate the efforts of fan translators and dub teams, and we ask that you respect us in return.

Journey to the Quest is a standalone animated series which started in short form content and has moved to longform YouTube videos, along with having a sucessful Kickstarter to create a pilot being released late 2027.

Journey to the Quest is not based on any existing show or campaign, it is completely original and written by Foster with Jay as the sole animator. Dez, Nara, and Bin act as creative collaborators along with the whole team voice acting in the show.

For the Gods is our longform Dungeons and Dragons 5e actual play. It is not related to Journey to the Quest, despite some of the character designs being similar.

For the Gods is a narrative-heavy actual play that began in 2023 and was the first project of Theatre of the Unaligned. For the Gods combines DnD 5e with many homebrewed rules, setting, and species. It has a much heavier tone that the other things we make, but if you like DnD actual plays we suggest you check it out! It’s what really kicked off Theatre of the Unaligned and we’re very proud of it.
